Robert Novak, RIP

Robert Novak always wrote accurate, thoughtful, concise, columns. If nothing else, he could be trusted to have his country's best interests at heart. He would criticize both sides of the aisle. He is one of the few newsmen I would have loved to have diner with.

To comply with "cash for clunkers" the engine is made to seize internally, by draining the oil from the crankcase and add a couple of quarts of water and "liquid glass". This plugs up oil galleys and causes bearings to fail. The end comes quickly. Witness:

Jeep franchise

Tonight, after thirty years selling and servicing new Jeeps, the dealer I have been working for over six years will loose its Jeep franchise. No compensation, no payment for the tens of thousands of dollars in special tools forced upon by franchise agreement. All of the mandated training of dealer personnel is money lost.

Let's hope that the community organizer does not try to save your livelihood!

D-Day

Please, remember the sacrifices 65 years ago at Normandy. I was honored, as a 19 year old Airman, to commemorate the D-Day landings in 1966. It was the first time I saw the beautiful cemeteries near the beaches.

Jack Kemp passed away this weekend. Condolences to his family and friends. Gentlemen of this stature do not come along very often. The world is less of a place with him gone.

How can one President of the United States fire the CEO of General Motors, and another President cannot fire US attorneys who work at the pleasure of the President without being investigated? Double standard, anyone, anyone...

City of Toledo

The City of Toledo, like most urban areas, has many budget problems to deal with. Much of this stems from the overall downturn in the world economy. A great deal of Toledo's trouble comes from decades of poor planning/management. Cutbacks in safety personnel; fire and police are seen as necessary to balance budgets. The current mayor has a great dislike for the Toledo Police, and I think he will make police cuts out of spite. One path that may be taken is to make the Lucas County Sheriff as the law enforcement agency for the city. This would make deputy sheriffs patrol and enforce the laws, the mayor would be relieved of a thorn in his side, and costs would be reduced substantially. This would not be a good choice, but somewhat of a "nuclear" option. Let's all hope and pray this never occurs!!
